We completed this deck building job in Norwood, MA in January 2022. A refaced backyard deck shows warm brown composite boards running the full length, a matching brown top rail with slim black balusters, and a bright white fascia skirt around the perimeter.
The deck wraps the back of a two-story vinyl-sided house at the point where a gable-roofed rear bonus room steps out from the main block. Its floor sits about two feet above grade, so the framing is closed in on all sides and the whole platform lands on an existing concrete patio and walkway. A single wide step drops off the front corner toward the yard, and a second run of two steps handles the side entry by the storm door. Patio furniture and a folded umbrella sit under the gable, with a grill parked at the far end.
This was a refacing job rather than a rebuild: the existing frame and posts stayed, and new composite surface boards, stair treads, and a picture-frame border went down over them. Post sleeves, top rails, and round balusters were installed around the open sides, and the perimeter band and stair risers were wrapped so no framing lumber shows at the edge.
