We completed this siding job in Wellesley, MA in January 2022. Two views show a gambrel-roofed home newly clad in cedar shingles finished deep navy, with white trim, a long band of dormer windows, and barn lights over the rear entry doors.
The rear elevation carries a full shed dormer across the second floor, so the shingle courses run unbroken from the dormer band down past the gutter line to the exposed concrete foundation. A pair of glazed French doors sits under two barn lights, with a single half-glass side door a few feet away and a small divided-light window between them. On the street side the house reads differently: a gabled entry portico on turned columns, a bay of windows to its left, and a projecting front gable with its own window. The parged foundation was left light gray as a base line under the dark shingles.
Every wall was re-clad in shingles, including the dormer cheeks, the gable ends and the portico returns, which means all the corner and frieze detail was rebuilt to suit the new thickness. Window and door openings were re-cased in white, and the gutter line and rake trim were replaced along with them. Grading around the foundation shows fresh disturbed soil where staging sat.
