This deck building project in Newton, MA was finished in January 2022. Looking up under the covered porch, a new tongue-and-groove wood ceiling with recessed lights meets brick columns and a white PVC-wrapped beam finished with crown molding.

This is a Tudor-style house with stucco-and-timber upper gables, a steep slate-look roof and dark stained trim. The covered porch below it runs on square red brick columns, and the exterior shot catches the new white beam wrap and gutter line freshly set against the older brickwork while a wire still hangs loose from the framing. Inside the porch, knotty pine boards run wall to wall overhead with small recessed fixtures let into them. The white painted crown at the perimeter closes the joint where the ceiling meets the beam.

The porch structure was refinished overhead and at its edges: a tongue-and-groove board ceiling installed over the framing, recessed lighting roughed in and wired, and the perimeter beam wrapped in white PVC with crown molding. New white fascia and a gutter were run along the porch eave. The brick columns and brick side wall were kept and worked around.
