Photographed in Duxbury, MA after the crew wrapped up in June 2024. Fresh red cedar shingles cover the gambrel upper walls, still unweathered and golden, framed by white corner boards and window casings above a dark asphalt shingle roof.
These photos look along the upper wall of a gambrel from the roof of the lower section. Cedar shingles run in even courses up to a boxed white eave, stepping around a corner and under a projecting bay soffit that is also shingled on its underside. Windows sit in wide white casings with a sloped sill below, and an older through-wall air conditioner remains in place above. Down at the eave line, a dumpster in the drive holds the stripped material from the walls.
Old siding was torn off and hauled to a dumpster staged in the driveway, then red cedar shingles were installed course by course, including on the underside of the bay overhang. White corner boards, casings and sill trim were run at each opening, and the boxed eave and rake were kept crisp above. Existing gutter and roof surfaces below were protected while the wall work went on.
